Finissage: MINKISI – Sculptures from Lower Congo

On Sunday June 2nd the Grassi Leipzig Ethnography Museum special exhibition MINKISI – Sculptures from Lower Congo closes.

But before it does the exhibition curator Dr. Christine Seige leads one final tour through the exhibition.

Presenting an unparalleled insight into one of the lesser explored worlds of African culture MINKISI – Sculptures from Lower Congo is as much an exhibition about the history of the former Kingdom of Loango and the nature of the first contacts between African and Europe as it is about the traditional sculptures and figures themselves.

MINKISI – Sculptures from Lower Congo can be viewed at the Grassi Leipzig Ethnography Museum until June 2nd 2013. And on June 2nd at 6pm Dr. Christine Seige will guide visitors through the exhibition. Before formally closing it.
