Following on from the Sven Temper exhibition Raumbilder at Galerie Hans-Peter Jochum, another tip for all visiting Berlin in the coming weeks.
Until August 5th the Bauhaus Archiv Berlin is presenting the exhibition ON-TYPE – Texts on Typography, an exploration of 100 years of font design and typography in German speaking Europe.
Conceived by students at the Fachhochschule Mainz ON-TYPE – Texts on Typography presents the development of font design and typography both chronologically and in the context of seven central themes including the influence of the Deutscher Werkbund, the position of typography in Nazi Germany and the developments that have taken place in light of increased digitisation.
Whereas texts themselves are obviously something that one reads; the ON-TYPE – Texts on Typography exhibition design concept is very much hands-on interactive.
The walls of the Bauhaus Archiv special exhibition space are adorned with pieces of paper printed with background texts, biographies of important designers and examples of key fonts. Visitors are encouraged to collect those texts/letters that most interest them and so compile their own catalogue.
In addition to the exhibition the Bauhaus Archiv has also organised an accompanying programme of talks and lectures.
ON-TYPE – Texts on Typography run at the Bauhaus Archiv Berlin until August 5th 2013.
