Symposium on Central Asian Textile Art at the GRASSI, 14-15th May

Following on from last years inaugural event looking at Turkmen textiles and jewellery, the 2nd symposium on Central Asian Textile Art at the GRASSI is being staged under the title: The Sogdians and their Influence on the Turkmen.

On May 14th and 15th a collection of international experts will not only debate a range of topics, including sogdian Art of Central Asia or the post-Sassanid Textiles of Central Asia but will also bring along items from their personal collections for a “show-and-tell” session.
A small exhibition of textile and other woven items compliments the symposium.

The Symposium on Central Asian Textile Art was established to bring the fascination and beauty of central Asian textile art to wider public and so raise awareness of the variety of works and level of craftsmanship involved.
