This coming Friday and Saturday 24/25 September the “Film Im Grassi” programme continues Rajas Reise.
Karl Saurer’s 2007 film tells the tale of the elephant Raja who in 1550 was presented by the King of Portugal to the Austrian Emperor.
The film depicts Raja’s capture in the forests of Kerala and his subsequent journey via Lisbon and Innsbruck to Vienna.
On the surface a film about the vanity of the European ruling classes Rajas Reise is also a exploration of exile and banishment.
